The Mental State Of Starting

I am 23 years old and have been doing this magazine since I was 15 so I thought I would share some dos and don’ts because having no knowledge on how to do this (trust me I googled it) you go through some ups and downs.

Check out this months three.

“I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares, as opposed to ugly things. That’s my intent.”

Saul Bass

1. Trust Yourself. When I first started I scrapped a lot of things in the process in fear of what others would think not really thinking that my opinion should come first because art is the expression of you and who you are. People will fall in love with that. I eventually realized to just give into my gut and try what felt great to my creative soul and here is REIGNLAND Magazine today.

2. Keep Trying. Gosh, I can’t even tell you how many times I wanted to quit!!! Not because I didn’t want to do it but starting out by yourself in any creative field is so much work, especially when you have to curate original content for a whole issue each month and also create your own buzz. The thing is, it’s worth it. Your dreams are worth all the hard work and dedication. It took me 7 years to finally get it where it should be and I don’t regret any hard work I put in.

3. Have an inspiring playlist on repeat. Being a creative can be tough sometimes and sometimes you may not have people who support your vision. Music was always my go-to for the support and self-confidence I sometimes needed. My go-to song? Conqueror by Jussie Smollett and Estelle. It helped me stay on track and fight those less happy thoughts that some may have placed in my mind about my chosen dream. Just remember your worth and your right to express yourself in a way that makes you happy and will probably bring happiness to others.

You got this. I’m rooting for you. Let’s start. xoxo
